Some venues seem to work almost effortlessly as event spaces, while others require more thoughtful planning and creativity. This American wedding was definitely one of the latter.
The impressive ceiling height, monumental scale and historic, church-like character of the venue offered unique possibilities, while also presenting a significant challenge: how do you bring life, warmth and the right wedding atmosphere into a dark, completely empty space?
The solution lay in the careful planning of the space and the harmonious combination of spectacular lighting and décor.
With a venue of this scale, precise planning is essential. We designed the entire wedding setup in 3D, allowing us to visualise the placement of the guest tables and head table, guest flow, wedding décor, technical elements and key focal points of the space well before the installation began.
Given the generous guest experience and attention to detail characteristic of American weddings, it was particularly important that every element was precisely positioned. Our goal was to keep the vast space elegant and visually impressive while creating a comfortable and intimate wedding environment for the guests.
Lighting played a defining role in shaping the wedding space. Kiscelli Museum is such a unique wedding venue that even the most beautiful décor cannot truly come to life without the right lighting. The lighting not only needs to work in harmony with the décor, but also needs to respond to the monumental scale of the space — otherwise, even the most carefully designed décor can simply lose its impact.
Using different spotlights and lighting effects, we highlighted the venue’s most characteristic features, while suspended crystal chandeliers and a large mirrored disco ball added strong visual elements to the space. The décor was also carefully designed to work in harmony with both the lighting and the character of the venue. Tall floral arrangements, delicate taper candles and suspended chandeliers helped us incorporate the impressive ceiling height into the overall wedding design. The floral arrangements on the guest tables featured both upward-reaching and cascading forms, while the candles added another layer of verticality to the tables. We carried the same concept through to the head table, creating a cohesive visual experience across the entire space. We further enhanced the elegant atmosphere of the wedding with gold accents. These details complemented the historic, church-like character of the venue with a more refined and sophisticated aesthetic.
As a result, the lighting, floral décor, furniture and the venue itself came together as one cohesive visual experience.
Once the moving lights and disco ball were activated, the entire space took on a completely new atmosphere as the evening moved from dinner into celebration and the party.
The light did not simply illuminate the space. It gave it a new identity.
Ceremony in the Garden, Dinner and Celebration in the Church-like Space
The wedding ceremony took place in the venue’s garden, allowing the outdoor ceremony and the evening reception to create two completely different atmospheres. After the natural surroundings of the ceremony, the guests arrived at a completely new atmosphere as they entered the dinner venue. And this was the WOW moment they were not expecting.
The guest tables, head table, floral décor, candlelight, chandeliers and lighting production in the church-like space came together to create the perfect atmosphere for the wedding celebration.
The venue was handed over to us almost completely empty, which meant that virtually everything had to be designed and built from scratch. At the same time, this gave us an incredible amount of creative freedom. From the furniture layout and floral décor to the lighting and technical production, every element could be tailored to the couple’s vision and the overall wedding concept. The result was a complete transformation of the venue. What initially appeared as a dark, monumental and almost completely empty space ultimately became a warm, elegant and dynamic wedding venue. The original character of the venue remained intact, while the lighting, floral décor, furniture and technical production created an entirely new atmosphere.
